Donald “Richard” James, age 66, a resident of Milford, Connecticut and beloved husband of Deirdre Morro James, passed away suddenly at home on March 25, 2015. He was born on March 27, 1948 to the late Delpha Jane Fricks James and Cyrus Wallace James.
Richard was a medical/pharmaceutical editor in New York. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia into life as the child of a career-Navy father and devoted mother. He was raised in Jacksonville, Florida where he developed his love of mathematics and writing. A prodigy, Richard would go on to win the statewide Math Fair award and enter Rollins College at the age of 16. A graduate of the University of North Carolina-Asheville, he then received his Master’s Degree in English Literature at Western Carolina University, and went on to receive a fellowship to Temple University in pursuit of his PhD.
Over the course of his life, Richard wrote over 15 full length plays including 10 verse plays; poetry, children’s plays, adaptations, a screenplay, and children’s books. Among his favorite works are the plays, Mesmer and The Queen’s Necklace, his children’s books, Snowflake and How the Sun Fell in Love with the Moon; and two volumes of poetry: Seeds of Darkness and The Book of Small Objects.
He was a brilliant, kind, and loving man. He graced the world with great passion, compassion, understanding, tolerance, ferocious talent, and profound intellect. He was a foundation of unassuming strength, clarity, and order to his family.
His wife Deirdre Morro James, daughters Emily James and Elizabeth James Kingsley, son Nicholas James, son-in-law Steven Kingsley, grandson Ryder Kingsley and brothers Bruce James and Bryan James survive him.
