BRIGHAM CITY – Donald Rae Spinney, 70 passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Brigham City Hospital.
Donald was born on June 17, 1943 in Everett, Massachusetts a son of Eldred Clayton and Gladys Lydia Ryder Spinney.
He graduated from Everett High School in 1961 then enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served until 1966. During that time he was stationed in Texas, California, Okinawa, and Vietnam. After his discharge from the Air Force, He attended the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Massachusetts earning his associates degree in Aerospace Engineering.
He was employed by General Electric, Honeywell, and Autoliv.
He married Sharon Checketts, April 3, 1971 and became a father to three young step-children: James, Christine, and Michael. From this union he had one son, Travis.
Don loved all aspects of aeronautics, something he picked up while serving in the Air Force as an airplane mechanic. This love grew into building and flying his own Radio Controlled Airplanes.
He was an avid reader finishing several books a month. He enjoyed reading and watching programs about history.
Don is survived by his wife Sharon, son Travis R. Spinney, San Francisco, step-son James (Cindy) Summerill, Willard, step-daughter Christine (Jeffrey) Moellendorf, Brigham City, grandchild Caitlin Moellenorf, Brigham City, sister-in-law Carol Silva, Brigham City, and siblings: Florence (Howard) Nickerson, Nova Scotia, Canada, Ivan (Helen) Spinney Saugus, MA, Lawrence Spinney Everett, MA, Dora (John-deceased) Little Everett, MA, Martha (Bill) Marsch Hudson, NH, and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by step-son Michael Summerill, his parents Eldred and Gladys, sisters Jean and Joyce, brothers Harry and Ernest.
The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Matthews, Dr. Charles Ivester, and Dr. Shelby Dames for all of the care throughout the last few years.
