Mr. Rabe died at his home on Monday, September 7, 2015. He donated his body to the Nebraska Anatomical Board.
Don was born on Feb. 27, 1922, in Royal, NE, the son of Ernest & Marie (Kiihne) Rabe. He graduated from Orchard High School in 1940. He farmed with his father before joining the U.S. Army on October 23, 1942, and served in Company K, 108th Infantry, in the Pacific Theater. After receiving a purple heart, Don earned his honorable discharge on November 30, 1945. After which, he returned home to help his father farm on the family farm.
On October 5, 1946 he married Doris Mitchell and moved to a farm in the Madison area. They were the parents of a daughter and a son. Don put up grain bins, continued farming and always did odd jobs for other people. In 1980, had a farm sale and moved to Madison where he continued carpentry work and was in the rental business until his death.
On October 20, 1988 he married Joan Ramsey.
He enjoyed helping others, working with leather and doing ceramics. He especially enjoyed being with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; his daughter, Suzette & husband, Bob Jurgens of Madison and a son, Bruce & wife, Judy, Brett & Bobby Rabe of Omaha; daughters Kathy & husband, Cliff Harlow of Chillicothe, MO, Mary & husband, Terry Ringot of Savannah, MO, Nancy & husband James Hughes, of Littleton, CO, and Doris & husband, Kirk Cave of Carrollton, TX.
Grandchildren and their spouses and great grandchildren: Troy and wife, Amy, their childrenLeah and William Jurgens, all of Lincoln; Robert Jurgens and his children Kaitlin, Kyle, Austin, Brittney, Riley and Braxton; Teri and husband, Pat Eurek and their childrenJacob, Anthony, Andre, and Daila; Sheila and husband Andy Koss and their childrenTanner, Pacey and Savanna, all of Madison.
He also survived by one sister, Phillis and her husband, Bob Allison; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his late wife, Doris, sister, Ann and her husband Eddie Ringler, and sister Arlene and her husband Don Montgomery, a great granddaughter, MaKayla Koss and a great grandson, Samson Eurek.
