Those left to honor Donald’s memory are his wife, Deloris Ely of Newton; 3 sons, Danny (Teresa) Ely, Darrell (Sue) Ely, and Dennis Ely, all of Newton; his 4 granddaughters, Danielle Ely of Newton, Shawna (Eric) Forst of Newton, Amy (Colin) VanDrimmelen of LeGrand, and Aleyna (Joel) Hinderberger of Anamosa; 4 great-grandchildren, Emmalin, Carter, Aryssa, and Carston; and 2 sisters-in-law, Gladys Ely of Newton and Bessie Ely of Altoona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Carl and Gertrude (Kelly) Ely; step-father, Roy Johnson; and his 4 brothers, Bill, Edward, Dean, and Robert.
He worked in the factory at the Maytag Company for almost 40 years as a foreman and supervisor.
