CURLEY, Donald “Pat” Portage, Michigan Donald “Pat” Curley 73, of Portage, MI, passed away peacefully July 12, 2013, at Bronson Hospital. He was born to the late George and Irene Curley on July 14, 1939. He grew up in Cheboygan, MI, where he first became known for his great voice. He sang at his church and at many local functions.

He proudly served his country with the 24th Infantry, 2nd Squadron, 9th Armored Cavalry, from 1963 until date, where you could say, his career in radio began. He specialized in Military Radio Code, and would report the news and sports scores to the troops, when he wasn’t relaying radar positions and coded orders. He was also decorated with the “Expert” Marksmanship Award. He later went on to work in radio, announcing many high school sporting events as well as semi-pro football. He transitioned into Cable TV, managing several different operations.

He became President of the Indiana-Illinois Cable Association from 1975 through 1981, while he was the Vice Pres. and GM of Cablevision in Kankakee, Ill. In 1981 he moved to Portage, MI as the General Manager with Fetzer Cablevision. He loved sports, especially the Detroit Tigers. One of his passions was participating in the Tiger’s online blogs with many friends, during every game. He is survived by his children, Jeff Mary Curley, Milford, MI; Jay Katie Curley, Beverly Shores, IN; and Amanda Hekili Apao, Las Vegas, NV; 7 grandchildren, former wife Sally Kennedy, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding him in death were his parents, along with his brothers whom he dearly missed: Ronald Curley, William Ann Curley, and Robert Curley.
