Donald N. Leckrone, 91, of Indianapolis, passed away in the afternoon of February 10, 2018 in Indianapolis. Don was born October 11, 1926 in Boone County, Indiana, a son of the late Charles S. and Lillie M. ‘DuVall’ Leckrone.

Don was a 1942 graduate of Pinnell High School and was the president of the class of eight students. After high school, he honorably served his country in the United States Army Air Force, serving in the European Theatre during World War II.

Don was a true old-fashioned gentleman in every sense of the word. He was courteous, selfless, kind, disciplined and respectful of others, honest, trustworthy, a loyal hard-working citizen and neighbor. His only enemies were landscape weeds, fallen leaves and snow, all of which he fought fiercely. He loved being outdoors, including his passion for gardening and working in his yard. He often took his family to McCormick’s Creek State Park for vacations and getaway weekends due to its beautiful natural settings.  He had previously actively played golf with friends and family until Millie’s stroke in 2000 preoccupied most of his time commitments.  He particularly enjoyed singing as well as travelling. He loved people and was loved by all who ever met him. Don was a Godly man and his influence and love will be keenly missed.

Don is survived by his wife, Rose Murphy, a son, Michael E. (Rhonda) Leckrone, two daughters, Janice E. (Gerald) Brett and Nancy L. (Gary) Ayers; his grandchildren, Brenda May, Gregory Brett, Allison Taffe, Christopher Leckrone, Jeremiah Ayers, Katherine Leckrone and Sarah Ayers; seven great-grandchildren; his step-children, Duane (Anita) Murphy, Bryan Murphy, Shannon (Tom) Pinson and Lloyd (Libby) Murphy; his step-grandchildren, Joshua (Ellie) Murphy, Charlotte R. Murphy, Patrick Murphy, Collin Murphy, Marisa Pinson, Liana Pinson, Jordan Murphy and Claire Murphy; two step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in his passing by his parents; his first wife, Millie Leckrone; his stepmother who raised Don from early childhood, Eunice Leckrone; two brothers, one of whom was also a WWII veteran of the European Theatre, and a sister.
