Donald Albert Litzinger
1930 – 2014
Don Litzinger peacefully passed away in his home on Wednesday, Jan. 22 surrounded by his loving family.
Born Feb. 2, 1930 in Hot Springs, South Dakota, Don grew up with a love of the outdoors, his horses, and was a cowboy in the most traditional sense. While stationed with the Navy in Philadelphia in 1952, he met his wife of 61 years, Rose, on a blind date. They had 6 wonderful children who blessed them with 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren who have known and loved Don for all the man he was.
Throughout his long life, Don wore many hats–in addition to his cowboy hat. He was the deputy sheriff in Hailey and Police Commissioner and City Marshal in Bellevue. Always the entrepreneur, he had the Triple L Construction Co. and also built the High Country Motel and the Prairie Rose Art Gallery. He was a traveler, a hunter and a fisherman. Don was a great artist: a celebrated musician, painter, leather craftsman and bronze sculptor. Don was preceded in death by his son, Donnie, and his parents, Robert and Pearl Litzinger.
He was our loving husband, father, grandpa, uncle, brother, and friend to so many. Don is already missed but will forever be with each of us wherever we go. He’s in the mountains and the prairie, and the wind in the trees.
