Donald Lester Dickey, 79, Anderson, died January 2, 2004 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Middletown after an extended illness. He was born March 13, 1924 in Rigdon, Indiana, and resided in Anderson, Indiana. He lived in this area all of his life. He retired in 1984 from Warner Gear in Muncie. During World War II, Lester served his country in the Coast Guard. He was stationed at Virginia Beach, Virginia, in North Africa, and was at Normandy Beach on D-Day. His ship. LST #381, ferried supplies from England to Normandy Beach and the wounded from the beach to England. He was discharged December 18, 1945 as a Motor Machinist’s Mate, Third Class. He was a Member of Ovid Masonic #164 F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Temple Shrine as well as the Tri-State Gas Engine Association. He served on the original board of directors for the Fall Creek Valley Conservation Club in Ovid. Trapshooting was a favorite sport for 20 years and he won several local shoots. He enjoyed repairing and restoring antique gas engines and Magnetos and was well known and respected for his ability and knowledge on those subjects. Lester also enjoyed flying his own small plane for several years. He is survived by his Wife of 59 years: Elizabeth Lewis Dickey. Two Children: Michael L. & wife Jane Dickey of Pendleton. Marilyn & husband Joseph Flack of Anderson. One Sister: Anna Mae & husband Donald Rhoades of Columbia City. Two Granddaughters: Jill Dickey of Pendleton. Lisa Dickey of Pendleton. Several Nieces & Nephews. He was preceded by his Parents: Samuel Clester & Faye Lyst Dickey. Brothers: Samuel Lloyd Dickey and John Leland Dickey. Grandson: Joseph Michael Flack.
