Donald L. Hilliard, Lt Col USAF Ret., passed away Saturday surrounded by his family. Don was born in Hobbs, NM to Daniel Lee and Elmeta Evelyn Hilliard. Dan made a career of the air force as an aircraft avionics maintenance officer. He served in Vietnam twice, the first on temporary duty in early 1965, then returned in December 1965 for a full year’s tour. Among his many decorations, his most cherished were the bronze star and his meritorious service award. He was first assigned to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in March of 1974, assuming command of the 4th Avionics maintenance squadron. Upon retirement he stayed in Goldsboro
He is survived by his wife, Janie B. Hilliard; stepsons, Anthony Harrell and Jay Harrell and wife, Christina; grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, Brandon, Justin, Jordan, Gavin Kyla, Krystal, Collette, and Sara.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Lynn Hilliard, son, Daryl Wayne Hilliard; brother, Harold Hilliard; and sister, Wanda Hilliard.
