Donald L. Jones, the son of Lawrence and Edna (Ferieo) Jones, was born February 28, 1933, in Jewell County, Kansas. He departed this life on July 29, 2022, at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 89.
Don was a lifelong resident of the area. He grew up in Jewell County, Kansas and received his formal education attending the White Rock rural school and graduated from the Burr Oak High School. A veteran of the United States Army, he served his country for three years during the Korean Conflict.
He was united in marriage with Beverly Shaw on June 5, 1954 at Guide Rock, Nebraska. This union was blessed with three children, Linda Sue, Mary Ann and Lawrence D. They made their home in the Red Cloud community where Don was employed with Webster County, and then with the State Department of Roads until his retirement. In later years and due to their failing health, Don and Beverly moved to Hastings to be near family.
In his leisure time Don enjoyed hunting. He was a gifted carpenter and was happiest when he was busy working on projects in his shop for family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Beverly, on July 17, 2022; his parents; a brother, Eldon Jones and a sister, Darlene VanHeusen.
Surviving are his children Linda Sue Smith of Lincoln, Nebraska; Mary Ann Quarles and husband, Tommy, of Kingsland, Texas and Lawrence D. Jones and wife, Victoria, of Hastings; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
