Donald L. Jarvis, 91, of Jacksonville, IL died Sunday, November 8, 2015, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

He was born June 28, 1924 in Scott County, the son of Ted and Mary Baird Jarvis. He married Mildred Westrope on March 20, 1944 and she preceded him in death on March 25, 2001.

He is survived by three daughters, Donna Sorrill (husband, Richard) of Nescopeck, PA, Karla Havens (husband, Robert) of Jacksonville, and Jeri Jo Lair (husband, Dale) of rural Ashland; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; two brothers, Harvey Jarvis (wife, Rosemary) of Jacksonville and Carl Jarvis (wife, Norla) of Tucson, AZ; his former wife, Betty Farmer Jarvis of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bernard Jarvis.

Donald served with the US Navy from 1942 to 1945 during WW II. He returned to embark on a distinguished 26 year career in law enforcement with the Jacksonville Police Department, retiring as Captain of Detectives in 1976. He then began a second career as a locksmith, owning and operating Jarvis-Havens Locksmiths from 1976-1988. He was a life member of the Associated Locksmiths of America, the Police and Benevolent Association, and Liter Baptist Church in Literberry.
