Donald Joseph Anaya, 88, passed away Nov. 8, 2020. A lifetime Puebloan he was born Nov. 4, 1932 to proud parents William and Vera Maestas Anaya both precede him in death along with his wife S. Colleen Anaya. Donald served his country in the United States Army.
A letter from his granddaughter- Taylor
Nov. 08 2020, my grandpa passed away. My grandma called him home 4 days after his birthday. He was the most heroic, generous, kind hearted man you’d ever meet. Growing up not only was he my best friend, he was my father figure. He would always tell me that what is his, is mine. He would never get mad/ show anger towards me, he would just try and help me out of any situation. When i was younger, he would take me to the park and we would play a game we made up called “grim reaper” and he would chase me through the play ground. We would also have tea parties together since i was an only child and i had no friends. He would raise his cup and say “oh what a lovely day” in a high pitch voice and blot his face. He didn’t care if he looked silly, only if i was happy. He liked watching me dance and act in plays. I was glad he was able to see me in 2 shows at adams state this year. My grandpa took me to school until Sophomore year of high school. On the way there everyday, we would listen to “ Holding on to Nothin’” and “ The Last Thing on my Min” by Dolly Parton and Porter Wagner. We would nudge each other for our part of the song too. He’s not confined to that bed anymore. He’s free with no more shaking. He is finally with his love of his life again and they both aren’t suffering anymore. I will cherish our memories forever.
