Donald J. Gruszka, age 85 of Freeport, IL, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. He was born December 29, 1935 in Oak Park, IL; the son of the late Frank and Mary (Jovanovich) Gruszka.
Donald served in the United States Navy for 4 years as a sonar technician. He graduated from NIU with his Master’s Degree and went on to become a teacher. He was a Principal in Pope County in IL and ended his career in education as a Principal at Pearl City High School in Pearl City, IL. He loved the outdoors, bird watching, gardening and going for walks.
He is survived by his daughters, Jeanne Parke and Katherine (Charles) Buzzell both of Freeport; the mother to his daughters, Connie Grouchy of Freeport; grandchildren, Sophie Buzzell, Emily Buzzell, Jeffrey Parke, and Adam (Heather) Zink; brother, Ray (Sallie) Gruszka of Redding, PA; son-in-law, Jeff Zink of MN; and sister-in-law, Debbie Gruszka.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Zink; and brother, Frank Gruszka.
