Donald W. Hays, 83, of Bloomington, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at his residence surrounded by his family. Don was born March 13, 1932, in Bloomington and was the son of the late Herman and Pansy (Mills) Hays.
Don owned and operated the Gulf Service Stations at 10th and the By-pass and 17th and Rogers for several years. He later worked as a mechanic for Harry Stephens Oldsmobile before going into the ministry. He pastored the Church of God of Prophecy for many years. Don’s retirement was spent as a Wal-Mart Greeter finally retiring a couple of years ago. He started the Bassmasters group in Bloomington and attended the Zion Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife Shirley A. Hatley-Hays of Bloomington, 4 children; Donald K. Hays of Spencer, Tonda Stafford (Jim) of Bloomington, Anthony Hays (Jill) of Owensburg, and Angela Patterson (Scott) of Bloomington. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, two sisters; Delores Brummett (Don) and Linda Perry both of Bloomington, and two stepchildren; Debbie May (Timmy) and Rick Moser both of Bloomington.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Sheryl Rice, his first wife, Yvonne Hays, and sister, Nancy Carol Hays.
