Donald H. Gore, 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Melbourne, FL on February 4, 2018. Don was born in Birmingham, AL on December 31, 1928 to James and Frieda (Weidenbach) Gore. He married Rose Rowold in Atlanta, Georgia on September 14,1952. After earning an engineering degree at Georgia Tech, he served in the U.S. Army for two years and enjoyed a thirty plus year career at Florida Power and Light in Stuart and West Palm Beach, Florida.
Don pursued his many hobbies with gusto. An avid hiker, Don walked over 1900 miles of the Appalachian Trail during his lifetime, with Maine being the only state to complete. Don and Rose also enjoyed hikes with special friends – many hikes in Europe and also through the Grand Canyon. In his retirement, he enjoyed making music with the piano or banjo, playing golf, and staying up-to-date with the weather, technology, and the news. No matter what the topic, Don was a witty, articulate conversationalist with an ever-expanding vocabulary. Don’s commitment to a healthy life was impressive. Each day, he ate his greens and beans and regularly out-did his younger relatives with his determination to complete his 10,000 daily steps.
Don was preceded in death by his daughter Marie (Al) Fernandez. Don is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Rose, daughters Karen (Gary) McGhan and Suzanne (Mark) Seager, ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren (with a ninth on the way), as well as two of his siblings Bill (Rojean) Gore and Ellen (Frank) McBrearity.
