Don’s Video TributeDonald Gene McCoy, Sr., 81, of Alexis, died at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, with his family by his side. Don was born October 10, 1932 in Bluejacket, OK, the son of John F. and Addie (Waugh) McCoy.
He married Betty J. Emerick on January 1, 1957 in Missouri. Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty of Alexis; two sons, Donald (Lisa) McCoy, Jr. of Abingdon and Ron (Kimberley) McCoy of Germantown Hills; one daughter, Brenda (Wes) Lovdahl of Monmouth; and seven grandchildren, Stephen and Christina McCoy, Andrew and Sara McCoy, and Preston, Drew, and Alex Lovdahl. He is also survived by one brother, Richard McCoy of Galesburg; five sisters, Shirley Fussner of Oak Hill, Connie Phillips of Pekin, Carolyn (Robert) Sweet of Rio, Joyce Bailey of Chillicothe, and Linda Hendricks of Missouri.
Don was preceded in death by one sister, Wilma Veatch and two brothers, Dewie McCoy and Francis McCoy. Don served in the US Army. He worked at OMC Gale Products, retiring after 26 ½ years. Don also was a self employed trucker for many years. Don enjoyed being outdoors. He especially loved to fish, hunt, and go mushrooming. But his greatest love was his grandchildren. He treasured watching them play their sports.
