Donald Frank Schaeffer of Ripley MD passed away peacefully after a short battle with AML on November 9, 2015. He started life in Newark, NJ, son of Wilbert and Elizabeth Schaeffer, 4th of 11 children. When Don was 9 they moved to Keansburg, NJ on the Jersey Shore. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the Air Force, where he met his wife Sophia. They had 3 children together, Donna Lynn, Daniel Alan, and Dina Lynette. After the kids were grown, left home and were married, Dan and his wife Cindy gave them 2 grandchildren, Erin and Dorothy, whom he loved and spoiled. Don retired from the Census Bureau after 35 years of service. Don and Sophia traveled after retirement, to the Panama Canal, Alaska, Europe, and Hawaii. Don loved the outdoors, and spent lots of time walking and gardening. Don and Sophia were a busy couple socially, and were active attending meetings and traveling with the 2N1 club. Don will surely be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Sophia, his daughter Dina Lynette and his son Danny and his wife Cindy; and 2 grandchildren, Erin and Dot. He is also survived by 4 sisters: Loraine, Barbara, Catherine, and Gail; and 4 brothers: Sonny, Robbie, Eddie, and Harry. He is predeceased by his daughter Donna Lynn.
