Donald Floyd Moody, 87

Poestenkill – Donald Floyd Moody died at Samaritan Hospital October 6th, 2008 of natural causes at the age of 87. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Janis Sprague Moody in 1998. Don was a hard working dairy farmer from the day he was born to the day he died. Don and his father, Floyd and later his son, Bruce operated a dairy farm called the Moody Farms on Garfield Road between Poestenkill and Eagle Mills, for some 63 years. One highlight of his career was the sale of a bull, Moody’s Pat Troy to the Dairy Herd Improvement Association, DHIA. The Troy bull is credited with increasing milk production dramatically in the Northeast. Don was involved in 4-H as a leader and encouraged the participation of both his children and grandchildren. Don was very active in the DHIA, Agway, NY State Conservation Service, Rensselaer County Farm Bureau, Dairylea and Eastern Breeders. Don had the strength of an ox and a fondness for cigars, card games and bowling. Don and Janis were known to be outstanding dancers and were an inspiration to all of their children.

Don is survived by his devoted sister Doris M. Pollock. He is also survived by all of his children, Sandra L. Chuhta, her husband John and their children Steven (Suzanne) Chuhta, Karen (John) Bieksza, Dan (Danielle), and Carolyn Chuhta; Sherwood C. Moody, his wife Mary Ann, and their children Adam (Rebecca) and Eric (Sandy) Moody; Sally A. Moody, her husband Steven Klein and their children Alex and Rachel Klein; and Bruce D. Moody, his wife Lynne and their children Stacy Seror, Rebecca Moody , Amanda (Merritt) Cropsey and Rachel, Jessica, and Mathew Moody; 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Thelma Chainao.
