Donald Eugene Ledbetter, 90, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022, at his home. Donald Eugene Ledbetter was born in E. St. Louis, IL on May 14, 1931, to Alden K. and Alice (Daniel) Ledbetter.
He married Carole Ione Hassley at Paul Street Bible Church, Ottawa, IL on June 27, 1958. Don attended Murphysboro Grade and High Schools and Southern Illinois University. He served in the Illinois National Guard from 1951 to 1953, then attended Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA for one year, and graduated from Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL in August 1955 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He graduated from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb in 1965, with a Master’s Degree in Educational Counseling and Guidance. He served as Chaplain at the LaSalle County Correctional Center for 20 years. Don played football for Murphysboro Twp. High School, Southern Illinois University, and a semi-professional team, the Peoria Rockets. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, the River Valley Church, and the Gideons, International.
He is survived by his wife, Carole, three sons, Daniel (Ruthe) of Springfield, MO, Paul (Deborah) of Indianapolis, IN, and Timothy (Stephanie) of Ottawa, six grandchildren: Sarah (Tien) Ta of Lombard, IL, Emily (Josh) Magee of Chicago, Ashley (Zach) Pessia of Kalamazoo, MI, Collin, Lauren and Carson Ledbetter of Indianapolis, IN, and a sister, Rosanna Ledbetter of San Antonio, TX, as well as nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John A. Ledbetter and William F. Ledbetter, and a sister, Lois Ledbetter Nordquist.
