Donald Edwin “Ed” Lance, 69 of Centralia, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013 at his home. He was born November 2, 1943 in Benton, son of Berthal Lance and Dorine (Puffer) Lance.
He is survived by a son, Michael Edwin Lance and wife Cathy of Columbia, Missouri; a daughter, Dawn Long and husband Doug of Centralia; three grandchildren: Douglas Dunahee of Centralia, Ashley Lance and Marissa Lance both of Columbia, Missouri; two sisters: Karen Maurer of Canton, Illinois and Judy McIntire of Centralia; a special friend Gayle Ziegler; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Jerry Lance, Jack Lance and Dwain Lance, a sister, Marge Brown.
Ed graduated from Centralia High School in 1961. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 25 years from 1963 – 1989, when he was disabled. He was a member of the Elks, the Moose, United Transportation Union, and the Bears, for 30 years. Ed enjoyed football, baseball, golf, fishing and playing cards. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan. He was elected into the CHS Sports Hall of Fame for the 1961 CHS Orphan’s Baseball Team. The Orphan’s finished the season 20-2. Arguably the best Baseball Team in CHS History. He loved spending time with his four legged companion, Copper.
