GORDON, Donald Edward
Donald E. Gordon passed away January 11, 2016, in Pueblo, Colorado, surrounded by family and friends. He suffered a stroke in February, 2015 and strove to comeback for 10 months until his passing. He was born in Denver, Colorado, on October 26, 1949 to Donald C. Gordon and Eliene G.(Knapp) Gordon, the second oldest child with a sister, Esther, (deceased) being the oldest. He had 3 younger brothers; David G. Gordon (Grand Junction, CO); Loren D. Gordon (Ashfork, AZ); and Duane O. Gordon (deceased).
When Donald was 11 years old his family moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, where he attended elementary school and attended Grand Junction High school. He was a proficient musician, growing up in a very musical family. He played 1st chair violin (and guitar) in orchestra, even going with the school orchestra to New York to play with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in 1967. As a young man he was active in 4H, Boy Scouts, and doing chores and working on the family farm in the Appleton, Colorado area.
Donald and his family all grew up playing music with his father and mother, both gifted musicians.
He was quite the “handyman” in many things; whether it was repairing an automobile, remodeling-building sheds or other improvements to the house, etc. He was quick to smile and had a very humorous side to him. He never got too excited about things like so many other people do. He also allowed people the freedom to be who they were, however, he would also not be afraid to argue with you if he felt you might be wrong on a particular subject. All in all, he was a gentle person, respected by and liked by those that did meet and know him.
He is survived by this wife of 44 years, Vera (Sage) Gordon; children: Jenito (Lea) Sturtevant (Pueblo); Leo (Tony) Gordon (Pueblo); “Qua Qua” (Shane) Gordon (Pueblo); Eliza (Sherae) Gordon (Pueblo); and Seth (Adam) Gordon. Brothers: David G. Gordon (Robin), Grand Junction, Colorado, and Loren D. Gordon (Mindy) of Ashfork, Arizona. 29 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, many nephews, nieces and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Esther; a brother, Duane, three nephews, and two nieces. We will miss your silly smile, you holding your favorite cup of coffee and your gentle nature. Farewell and rest in peace Dad, we love you.
