Donald E. Kimmel, Sr., 80, of Huntington, IN passed away at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at his home. Mr. Kimmel was born on September 4, 1932 in Huntington, IN to the late Emil B. and Ruth Teusch Kimmel. . Mr. Kimmel is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sharyon Tappero. They were married on July 2, 1957 in Silver Lake, NM. She survives in Huntington, IN. Mr. Kimmel was a lifelong resident of Huntington County. He was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He served in the Korean War after graduating from Huntington High School. He worked as a Quality Control Engineer for Memcor, ITT Corporation and United Technologies.Don was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and participating in Early American Re-enactments.
He was often seen at the Forks of the Wabash Nature Center in his buckskins and coon hat as a story teller for Indiana history month for local schools during their field trips. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons: Donald (Sara) Kimmel, Jr., Fishers, IN, Daniel (Krista) Kimmel, Olympia, WA, David (Kirstenn) Kimmel, Houston, TX, Damon (Daline) Kimmel, Huntington, IN; and one daughter, Deborah Tyler, Orland, FL. Mr. Kimmel is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Delane Kay Kimmel; and two sisters, Patricia Pollock and Carolyn Allen.
