Donald E. Koehn, age 69 of Lena, IL, passed away July 29, 2017 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. He was born February 28, 1948; the son of Cletus and Betty (Diestelmeier) Koehn. He was a 1967 graduate of Pearl City High School. He went on to Highland Community College graduating in 1969. He then graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1971. Donald married Susan Kempel on April 8, 1972. He was a member of Ebenezer-Salem United Church of Christ in Loran, IL.Donald devoted his life to his family and his farming. He farmed south of Loran for 35 years. He loved his dairy cows and would often walk the fences to be sure his herd was safe. He was an animal lover – especially with his dogs Coco, Buck, and Lily. He looked forward to spending time with his family and would countdown the days until he would see them again. He also enjoyed traveling to events to watch and support his grandchildren. His favorite music was classic country, so he was often tuned in to Willie’s Roadhouse on Sirius XM. His days were full of hard work, dedication, love, and laughter. He ended most days fast asleep while sitting upright at the kitchen table with his family by his side.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Koehn of Lena; mother, Betty Koehn of Lena; son, Chad (Tara) Koehn of San Jose, CA; daughters, Angela (Ryan) Pierce of Freeport, IL, Kim (Matt) Haverland of Lanark, IL, and Brittney Koehn of Peoria Heights, IL; grandchildren: Hunter & Hayley Koehn; Jayden & Bayley Pierce; Brighton, Quinc & Zyacn Haverland; father-in-law John J. Kempel of Pearl City, IL; sister-in-law, Cathie (Gary) Dambman of Milledgevile, IL; brothers-in-law John A. Kempel and Tim Bruneau of Rancho Mirage, CA; and brother, Ronald Koehn.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cletus and his mother-in-law, Donna Kempel.
