WINSTED – Donald E. Crandall, Jr., 71, passed away peacefully with his loving family surrounding him on April 26, 2022. He was a devoted husband to Jane (Turgeon) Crandall for 49 years. Born on March 20, 1951 in Great Barrington, MA, he was the son of the late Donald E. Crandall Sr. and Martha (Bliven) Crandall. Don grew up in Otis, MA where he enjoyed a childhood filled with family time; nearby Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and many cousins. Don graduated from Lee High School where he played football and was an enthusiastic skier and instructor at the Otis Ridge Ski Area. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He attended North Adams State College, Northwestern Connecticut Community College, and Central Connecticut State University. He spent his career as a bank manager beginning at Woodbury Savings Bank before moving on to First Federal Savings in Canton Village. He completed his tenure as Vice President of Loan Servicing at Eagle Bank in Torrington. Don was an avid reader of many genres of books, especially science fiction and Star Wars. He loved to play golf with friends and colleagues as well as watch tournaments during the summer months. Like his father before him, he was a devoted NY Giants fan and also loved to cheer for the UCONN Women’s Basketball team. His love and talent for music was instilled in his children and grandchildren whom he often entertained with his amazing voice and beautiful guitar music. He was extremely proud of the special musical talents he passed on to them and they will always remember growing up surrounded by the music he shared that was special to him. As the family’s “Father Christmas” he was always the first one up on Christmas morning with a smile and sparkle in his eyes and he continued throughout his life to believe in Santa Claus and all things magical. In addition to his wife, he leaves his cherished children, Wendy Crandall of Winsted, Julie (Daniel) Connelly of New Hartford, and Erica (David) Monroe of Winsted; his beloved grandchildren, Sam Middlebrook, Jack Lewis, Timothy Crandall, Dillon and Cathryn Connelly, and Noella and Victoria Monroe; siblings, Susan Dillard of Great Barrington, MA, Martha (Arthur) Savard of Campton, NH, and Irene (Joe) Kavcak of Wind Gap, PA; brother-in-law, Gary Ciminero of Warwick, RI; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
