Donald “Don” Davidson, 83, of Virginia, IL died Thursday, June 14, 2012 at his residence.
He was born March 13, 1929 in Springfield, IL; the son of John and Elizabeth Radigan Davidson. He married Mary J. Reid on February 27, 1949 in Virginia and she survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Diane Blair (husband, Darrell “Duey”) of Pleasant Plains and Donna Wood (husband, Steven) of Union, MO; a son, Donald Davidson Jr. of Springfield; 5 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 12 step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson; four brothers; and a sister.
Mr. Davidson served with the US Marine Corps from 1946-1948 and later worked 32 years for Fiat-Allis in Springfield. During that time, he also served as a deputy sheriff in the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department.
He was a former member of the Four Square Gospel Church in Springfield. In addition to his love of family, Don was proud of his Irish heritage and his service in the Marine Corps.
