Donald D. Long, 81, of Jacksonville, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Mar. 13, 1931, near Valley City, the son of Oscar Truman and Flossie Coffman Long. He married Dorothy Dalton on Oct. 27, 1956, in Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by one sister, Marylin (Louie) Plumier of Chatham; one brother, Frank (Mary) Long of South Jacksonville; several nieces and nephews; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Mary Dalton of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister in infancy.
Mr. Long was a 1949 graduate of Griggsville High School and then served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany. He was a carpenter, and had worked many, many years in all facets of construction in the Jacksonville area. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, loved to hunt for mushrooms, and enjoyed taking their dogs to the country for exercise. Don also enjoyed working out at Cardiac Rehab at Passavant Area Hospital. He treasured the time he spent seeing his friends for breakfast at Hardee’s.
