Donald D. Haut, M.D.
Of Alexandria, VA, died at home with family by his side on March 2, 2020. Dr. Haut is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Marlis Haut; three children, Donald Haut, Jr. and his wife, Tricia, their two children, Ian and Ainsley Haut, of Concord, MA, Phillip Haut, of Los Angeles, CA, Sarah Haut, of Alexandria, VA, and two stepchildren, Karin Fletcher and her husband, Doug Miller, of Port Orchard, WA, and Gregory C. Fletcher and his wife, Susan, their two children, Grace and Clara Fletcher, of Seattle, WA.
Dr. Haut grew up in New Castle, DE, the son of Henry Nathaniel and Frances Sheridan Haut. He attended Wilmington Friends school and graduated in 1950. He received his ROTC training and A.B. degree in pre-medicine cum laude in 1954 from Western Maryland College, where he was also a Gamma Delta Chi fraternity brother. He continued his education at the Temple University School of Medicine, graduating in 1958. Dr. Haut served in the US Army where he was promoted to the rank of Captain in 1961, and continued his service in the Army Medical Reserves until 1965. After completing his residency at George Washington University Hospital, he began his private practice in internal medicine. During his career, he was also Chief of Medicine at Alexandria Hospital in the early 1980s and a Northern Virginia Medical Examiner from the early 1980s until his retirement in 2017.
Throughout his life he enjoyed being a part of his community, as well as traveling internationally with family, antique furniture, woodworking, tennis, raw oysters, Glenlivet, and ties.
