Donald David “Don” Butler, 87, of Elkhart, Ind., passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, at 5:24 a.m. in Elkhart General Hospital.

He was born on Aug. 18, 1922, in Warsaw, Ind., to Charles and Carla (Muscroft) Butler. On June 24, 1944, he married the former Dora M. Ruse in Warsaw.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Dora M. Butler of Elkhart, Ind.; son, David and his wife, Paula Butler, of Lake, Mich.; daughter, Deedee and her husband, Daniel Guss, of Lambertville, Mich.; and two grandchildren, Monty Langwell and Robert and his wife, Jamie Langwell Jr., both of Elkhart; and one great-grandchild, Ani Langwell.

Don was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Butler, and a sister, Charlotte Butler.

Donald was a wood pattern maker for many area shops for many years, retiring at the age of 62. He then became a real estate agent, working in both Indiana and Michigan. Don was a 50-year member of the Presbyterian Church in Edwardsburg, and the Pattern Makers League. He also served in the United Sates Navy during World War II as an aviator from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1944. He was a member of the American Legion Post 365 in Edwardsburg.

Don enjoyed fly fishing, going to auctions and collecting many things, including antique toys. He could build just about anything he put his mind and hands to. Donald and Dora resided on Garver Lake for 27 years and have many wonderful memories with family and friends there.
