Mr. Donald Cecil Carroll, age 65, of Valley passed away at his residence on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at his residence.

Mr. Carroll was born on February 21, 1951 in Birmingham, Alabama, where he was adopted by Cecil and Frances Carroll.  He enjoyed a wonderful life with his mom and dad until he was four years old when his mother passed away from natural causes.  He never forgot his loving mother and spoke of her often.  Don went to Valley High School where he participated in all sports, but he loved football the most.  After high school, he attended Samford University, where he continued to play football and finished an undergraduate degree in Business.  He joined the United States Marine Corps and fought in the Vietnam War, as a rifle marksman.  He was discharged with honors and received a National Defense Service Medal with Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, a Good Conduct Medal, and Rifle Marksman Badge. 

Don continued to love and collect guns and was known to be one of the most accurate shooters around.  He loved to fish and travel and was an avid University of Alabama football fan.  He was a member of the Langdale United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his son, Donavan Carroll; daughter, Amber Carroll(Kevin) Morris; grandchildren, Randall Irvin, Dixie Morris, Autumn Morris, D.J. Teel-Morris, Logan Carroll, Danelle Carroll, Caylee Carroll, and Carolyne Carroll; aunt, Lovetta Burks; brothers, Mike(Sharon) Dabbs, Carey (Tammy) Carroll; sisters, Sheryl (Larry) Johnson, Carol Chism.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, David Carroll; brother, Nelson Dabbs; parents, Cecil and Frances Carroll and Annie Osborn Dabbs.
