Don Tolley of Boise, formerly of Caldwell, ID, passed away on Monday, January 28th at the age of 77.
Don was born and raised in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Joseph C. Tolley and Blanche E. Whitman (Tolley). At the early age of 12 he went to work for a pharmacy in Idaho Falls. He delivered prescriptions, worked the soda fountain and swept the floors. It was at this time he decided to be a pharmacist. Don graduated from Idaho Falls High School and graduated from Idaho State University School of Pharmacy, in 1952.
While working as a pharmacist in Twin Falls, he met and later married Mary Lou Turner on March 22, 1953. Don and Mary Lou were married for 53 years. During their 53 years of marriage, Don continued working as a pharmacist in Twin Falls, Boise, and Caldwell. The Medical Clinic Pharmacy, in Caldwell, was started by Don and a partner, and later owned by Don until he retired in 1994.
Being involved in community activities and organizations was a major part of Don’s life. He served on the boards of Idaho State Pharmacy, Idaho Elks Rehabilitation Hospital, and Shriners Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake, UT. He was elected ISU Alumni President, and Idaho State Pharmacy Board president. He also served in several civic organizations.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and his loving wife, Mary Lou, on June 28, 2006.
Don is survived by his two daughters, Becky (Arden Weintraub), and Deb (Steve McCain); 2 grandchildren Jeff (Chandra) McCain, and Kim (Chris) Phillips; 6 great-grandchildren; a special sister-in-law Kay (Norm) Mattefs; and several special nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express many thanks to the staff and friends at Valley View Retirement Center, Sun Health, and the Life Care Center of Treasure Valley. Don was blessed to have the care and friendship from so many wonderful people.
