Donald Brovelli, 89, of rural Oglesby, died on Tuesday, April 23, at IVCH.
Don was born on April 12, 1930 in LaSalle to Attilio and Maria (Contini) Brovelli. He was a graduate of LaSalle-Peru Township High School and attended LPO Junior College. He played football at both schools. He married Shirley Guenther on April 24, 1954 at the County Line Lutheran Church.
Don was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a farmer and worked in the trucking industry for Yellow Freight Lines until his retirement in1996. He was a charter member of the Oglesby Elks Lodge. He loved golfing and all sports, coffee with his “bunch” at BK, working out at the Health Center, and cutting grass at the farm.
Don’s greatest joy in life was watching his children and grandchildren playing sports. He was a constant at their sporting events, cheering them on win or lose. Don loved playing sports himself. He played football in high school and in junior college and enjoyed the Oglesby Elks golf outings.
Don loved farming with his wife. He enjoyed riding around the farm on a tractor, his gator and especially loved cutting grass on the lawnmower. Don was a kind, hardworking man who had a story for anyone who would listen. He cherished his coffee bunch and reminiscing about the good old days.
Don spent his days working out at the health center, visiting the riverboat, and going out to dinner with his wife. He will forever be cherished by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, one son, David (Kelly) Brovelli, of Oglesby, 3 grandchildren; Tyler, Riley, and Avery Brovelli, one brother Ronald (Marlyn) Brovelli, of DeKalb, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Larry, in 1977. Honorary pallbearers will be his 3 grandchildren and Randy Steele, Mike and Brian Brovelli, and Ron Gregorich.
