Donald Bird the son of Lester and Margaret Thompson Bird was born May 8, 1931 in Lincoln County Kansas near Denmark.  He departed this life on Friday, February 2, 2018 at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 28 days.

Don attended grade school at Chase, Kansas and later attended Hunter High School at Hunter, Kansas.  In 1946 Don moved along with his family from Ash Grove to a farm north of Esbon, Kansas.   On June 15, 1952 Don was united in marriage to Loreen Faye Figgins at the home of her parents.  The couple moved to Plainville where Don worked for Baroid Division as a drilling engineer and manager until 1960.  Don and Loreen then moved back to Esbon and farmed.  They moved south of Red Cloud, Nebraska in 1962 which is where they have remained and made their home.

Don started his own business in 1975 and sold lubrication farm supplies and structural rod and pipe until 2000.  In 1999 Don and Loreen began working for the Corps of Engineers where they became Park Attendants which they did for over 17 years and they very much enjoyed.

In 1965 Don and Loreen adopted three children: Theresa Ann, John Bradley and Mary Angelia.  Don was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, his family was his pride and joy.  Don was always active and busy, he never met a stranger and loved meeting new people.  The enjoyed square dancing and going to the lake whenever possible.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Larry Bird, Robert Bird and a grandson Brent Small.

Survivors include his wife Loreen Bird, daughters Theresa Small and husband Brad of Lavista, Nebraska; Mary A. Morrison and husband Ray of Bradenton, Florida; son John Bird and wife Terri of Ogallala, Nebraska; brother Delbert Bird of Esbon, Kansas; 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends.
