Donald A. Brennan, 80, of Manchester Township, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 after a brief illness. Born in Jersey City, Donald grew up in South Orange and was a graduate of St Benedicts Prep and Seton Hall University. He had a lengthy and successful career at Mutual Benefit Life in Newark, where he met his future wife, Laurel Lewis.
Don was a devoted communicant of various Catholic parishes in the state throughout his life, including Our Lady of Sorrows in South Orange, The Shrine of St Joseph in Sterling, and was a generous supporter of St Vincent’s Social Concerns Ministry at St John’s Church in Lakehurst. Most notably, Don was an active participant in fundraising and general support for St Benedict’s Prep School in Newark. Deeply loved by many, Donald was known for his infectious smile, his quick wit, his fun-loving and compassionate spirit, and his generosity to those he knew and those in need.
Donald was married to Laurel Lewis for 39 memorable years and enjoyed traveling and vacationing with her and with their families. He dearly loved everyone in his extended family and considered his in-laws as his siblings.
Donald was predeceased by his parents Dorothy and Lawrence Brennan of South Orange, New Jersey and is survived by his loving family: His wife, Laurel of Manchester; His three siblings: Dolores M. Lewis of Freehold, Lawrence A. Brennan of Boiling Springs, South Carolina, and Michael P. Brennan and his wife Susan of Monmouth Beach; His brothers and sisters in law James and Joni Lewis of Nutley, NJ, Robert Lewis of Hilton Head, SC, Charles Foster of Wakefield, RI, Barbara Colosky of Toms River, and Jack and Cathy Lewis of Virginia Beach, VA, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
