Don Eastman, born December 15th, 1941, grew up in St. Maries, Idaho swimming the St. Joe River and roving the woods-experiences that cemented his deep and abiding love for wild waters and wild country. He enlisted in the Army at seventeen, working at the Nike Missile Site in Redmond, Washington, and in Texas where he married and had two children-Donnie Eastman and Vicki Lynn Raine. In the early 70s, he married Cathleen Eastman and moved with her two daughters-Michelle Carlson and Deborah Wood-from North Bend, Washington to the Fraser Prairie where Don and Cathy had a daughter, Annie Lampman. In 1977, they moved to Headquarters, Idaho, living there for decades, Don working as the town carpenter, fire fighter, and general handyman until the mid-’90s. Later, he worked as a radome site engineer, traveling widely. From 2008 on, he lived in Sagle/Garfield Bay, Idaho. Throughout his life Don was a fine woodworker, crafting beautiful pieces of furniture that continue to live on. He was an active and expert outdoorsman-fly fishing, camping, backpacking, llama packing, cross-country skiing, and hiking. He passed that legacy on to his family members who remember him as a multi-talented, generous man with a strong work ethic who loved to tell stories almost as much as he loved the outdoors and adventures. Wherever he went, Don was well loved and well remembered. He lived a full life until his death on February 7th, 2015. He is survived by daughters Vicki Lynn Raine of San Antonio, Texas and Annie Lampman (Steve Lampman) of Moscow, Idaho; grandsons Ryan Upton of San Antonio, Texas, and Phinehas, Benjamin, and Isaiah Lampman of Moscow, Idaho; stepdaughters Michelle Carlson of Troy, Montana, and Deborah Wood of Port Townsend, Washington; grandchildren Natassia Hamer of Sandpoint, Idaho, Molly Hunt of Tacoma, Washington, Zane Farrington of Lynden, Washington, and Nina Wooldridge of Woodinville, Washington; siblings Richard Eastman of Sagle, Idaho, Gene Eastman of Weippe, Idaho, Trudy Faunce of Lakeland, Florida, and Jan Burpee of Pocatello, Idaho. An outdoor celebration of his life is planned for spring along the St. Joe River.
