Don Louis Rost, age 92, a resident of Albuquerque since 1951, died from complications from a fall on Sunday, October 23, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lea; daughters, Cynthia Gayle Sowa and husband, Peter of Knoxville, TN and Debra Layne Velarde and husband Bob of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Ariane Sowa, Alexis Sowa, Bryn Sowa, Bari Sowa, Lauren Velarde McKenzie and husband, Garrett, and Chase Velarde; great grandchildren, Devon and Gresham Sowa and Skylar and Finn McKenzie; brothers, Duane Rost and Rowe Rost; and numerous other relatives and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Lucile Rost. He was born in 1924 in Pulaski, TN and after high school served honorably in the Army Air Corps, as a member of the “Greatest Generation”, during WWII. He met Lea at David Lipscomb College in Nashville and they were married on June 17, 1948 in Sheffield, AL. Don attended Georgia Tech where he received his BS in Industrial Engineering. He received a job at Sandia Labs where he retired in 1989. Don was in the choirs at both Lipscomb College and Georgia Tech and the Bel Canto Choir in Albuquerque for many years. He was a strong believer in Christ and ministered through music, prayer, bible teachings, and knowledge of the scripture. His favorite place of worship was Christian Center in its early years. Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
