Dominick S. Carinha, 87, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, April 14, 2021 at Arnold Walter Nursing Home in Holmdel, New Jersey. Dominick was born on September 22, 1933 in Murtosa, Portugal, where he lived for the earlier part of his childhood. At eight years old, Dominick immigrated to the United States with his family and they started their lives in Newark, New Jersey. During his teenage years, Dominick worked at a fish market in Newark for many years, where he received the nickname “Fish”. Dominick enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served our country from 1954 to 1956. In 1955 while stationed in Guam, Dominick received his naturalization papers, which was a moment he was extremely proud of. After his service with the Army, Dominick returned to Newark and met his beloved wife, Anita, and they were married on June 27, 1959. Shortly after in 1963, they settled in Hazlet, New Jersey, where they remained to raise their family. Before his retirement, Dominick worked as a stonesetter for the Stonesetters Local Union #1 in Manhattan, New York for many years. Most of all, Dominick was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. His endless sense of humor will be carried on by his family and all who knew and loved him.
Dominick was predeceased by his parents, Maria and Domingos Soares Carinha, his beloved wife, Anita M. Carinha, and his dear son, Dominick Carinha. He is survived by his loving daughters, Toniann McCoy and her husband, Bobby, of Hazlet, and Gina Seber and her husband, Ralph, of Hazlet, and his cherished grandchildren, Tara McCoy, Emilie Carinha, Rebecca McCoy, Joseph Seber, Mia Seber, David McCoy, and Tiffany McCoy. Dominick will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
