On Monday, March 23, 2015, Dominic J. Cantafi passed away at the Salmon Brook Center in Glastonbury. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Donald J. and Concetta (Spera) Cantafi. He had lived in Newington many years where he was a past treasurer of the Colonial Manor Condominium Association, and a communicant of Church of the Holy Spirit. Prior to retirement, he gave 30 years of dedicated service as a computer programmer to Chandler Evans in West Hartford. Dominic grew up in the North End of Hartford where his passion for baseball was first nurtured rounding the bases of Waverly field. While attending Weaver High School at the age of 17, he was recruited as a pitcher by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Later in life he shared his love of the game with his own sons, and as a grandfather he was sure to pass down his signature knuckleball pitch. A lifetime Yankees fan, Dominic always felt at home while on the field or on the bench cheering on future Cantafi generations. He is survived by his children Vicki T. Turkington and her husband Arthur of Andover, Donald J. Cantafi and Krissi Sheehan of Wethersfield, Daniel J. Cantafi and his wife Karen of Glastonbury, a brother Bruno Cantafi and his wife MaryAnn of Higley, AZ, 6 grandchildren, Danielle Cantafi and her fiancé John Kornacki, Zachary Cantafi, Dana Andrews, Daniel D. Cantafi, Connor Cantafi, & Brandy Turkington, and also his former wife Elizabeth (Vitkus) Cantafi of Wethersfield. All of the Cantafi family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at the Salmon Brook Center for all of the respect, thoughtfulness, and care shown to Dominic.
