Dolores Marie Reichert, 89, of Virginia, IL died Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at the home of her daughter, Judy Dillard, in Jacksonville, IL surrounded by her family. She was born June 30, 1927, in Arenzville, IL, the daughter of Otto John Henry and Verna Louise Kleinschmidt Lovekamp. She married Alvin Oscar “Barney” Reichert on July 29, 1945, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville and he preceded her in death on June 14, 1982.
She is survived by a son, James Leroy Reichert (wife, Susie) of Virginia; three daughters, Judy Diane Dillard (husband, Charles “Chuck”) of Jacksonville, Vicki Kay Robson of Murrayville, and Shelia Dawn Knisley of Springfield; 10 grandchildren, Tod, Tori, Joe, Nancy, Jody, Amanda, Nathan, Patrick, Brent, and Brandon; 9 great-granddaughters; 12 great-grandsons; a great-great-grandson; a sister, Iris Joan Oakley (husband, Ralph) of Zionsville, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Patsy Louise Miller (surviving husband, Mike of Virginia); a grandson, Kelly Robson; a brother, Martin Leroy Lovekamp; and a son-in-law, David Robson.
A graduate of Arenzville High School, Dolores was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville. She was first employed at the Beardstown Glove Factory and later served as a special deputy and the chief cook and bottle washer at the Cass County Jail during her husband’s tenure as Cass County Sheriff. She was later employed many years by the United States Postal Service as a postal clerk in Virginia, honored to be one of the first females to serve in that capacity.
Dolores was a devoted member of Grace Lutheran Church in Virginia, where she formerly served as a Sunday School teacher. She was formerly active in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bluff Springs, where she served many years as a Bible School teacher. She was also a member of the Cass County Democratic Women and the Virginia American Legion Post 258 Auxiliary. In her spare time, Dolores enjoyed gardening, crocheting, playing pinochle, and spending time with her family.
