Dolores Joan Childrey, Age 85, of Vanceburg, Ky., passed away Thursday August 30th, 2018 with her family by her side at the Southern Ohio Medical Center Portsmouth, Ohio.
Dolores was born in Concord, Ky. August 3rd, 1933 to the late Robert Jackson and Ethel Phyliss Spriggs Vance. Dolores was raised by two loving parents in Concord, Ky.
Dolores was a graduate of Tollesboro High School Class of 1951. After graduating, she married William T. Childrey Sr. on July 14, 1951. In 1968, they moved with their children from Tollesboro to Front street in Vanceburg, Ky.
Dolores began working for the U.S. Shoe Corporation after being employed there for 27 years until the Plant’s closing. She retired to care for her elderly mother. Following her mother’s death Dolores served as a Foster Grandmother at the Vanceburg Headstart for 15 years. She always relished her time with the children and “girls” as a Foster granny and lamented that she had to “give it up” due to numerous health problems.
Dolores was a caring and compassionate person, who dearly loved to spend time with her family and friends. It can be truly said that to know her was to love her.
Surviving are two sons- David (Keri) Childrey – St Paul, Ky., and Bill Childrey Jr. of Tollesboro, Ky.
Five grandchildren- Jeremy Alan Childrey, Sarah (Jeremy) Applegate, Dylan Bailey, Emily Childrey, and Samantha Childrey.
Seven -great-grandchildren- Jera Applegate, Kaylee Holland, Kayce Applegate, Zachary Applegate, Brianna Bailey, and J. R. Bailey and Aubrey Elaine Bailey who also will mourn her passing.
Sister-in-law- Betty Vance, lifelong friend (sister) Jeanie Vance, numerous nieces and nephews as well as countless friends who will mourn her passing.
Dolores so treasured her many friends that she claimed it made her the richest woman in the world.
Preceded in death beside her parents was her husband- William T. Childrey Sr. in 1991, a daughter- Joan Elaine Bailey in 2014 and a brother- Charles Robert Vance in 2013.
