Dolores D. Saylor, 92, a resident at Hamilton Grove Retirement Community in New Carlisle, died at the facility on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021.
Born Jan. 8, 1929 in Chicago, she was the daughter of Alberto and Mildred (Wheeler) Diaz. On Oct. 12, 1946, she married John R. Saylor in New Carlisle. He preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 1992.
She graduated from New Carlisle High School and Indiana Business College and worked as an administrative assistant with national security clearance at Bendix when the company was designing weapon systems for the military. She later worked as an administrative assistant for the St. Joseph County Parks system, beginning with Bendix Woods County Park in 1971 and later at St. Patrick’s County Park in South Bend.
She was a life-long member of New Carlisle United Methodist Church, serving on various supervisory boards and volunteer roles throughout the years. She was active in supporting literacy through her work with the New Carlisle Public Library and was an avid reader herself, using audio books after she lost her vision a decade ago.
She was a member of Delta Theta Tau and formerly of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved to bake and spend time with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are three sons, John T. (Deborah) Saylor, and James M. (Wendy) Saylor, of New Carlisle, and Douglas K. (Carla) Saylor, Austin, Texas: a daughter, Julie McClure, Columbus, Ind., nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
