Dmytro Godovanyk passed away on Monday, December 26, 2022, at the age of 46.
Dmytro was born on April 14, 1976, in Leninogorsk, Tatarstan, of the former Soviet Union, to Nadya Kakhovsky and the late Evgeniy Godovanyk. Although Dmytro was born in Russia, he believed his soul belonged to Ukraine. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, he moved with his family to Ukraine, where he would go on to serve in the military. During his time in the military, Dmytro was deployed in the Bosnian War and served in the UN peace keeping forces. He loved to regale friends and family of the hardships and difficult decisions he had to make during his deployment. While in the military, his immediate family would immigrate to America, with whom he would be reunited with in 2011. After his military service, Dmitry pursued a career in web development and application design
The best way to describe Dmytro would be by talking about his huge heart. His kindness knew no boundaries, and he could not stand others suffering. On several occasions he brought people home from the streets to bathe and feed them. He couldn’t refuse giving money to those in need, even when he needed it for himself. His bright, eccentric, and artistic nature brought light to those in their darkest moments and accentuated those who’s moments couldn’t be brighter.
Dmytro loved nature and the outdoors. He loved the beauty of the earth and could spend weeks in the woods fishing, grilling, and exploring.
Dmytro was the first person in his family line to be Christened. His impact on the family led his stepfather to pursue the faith and become Christened at the same time.
Dmytro is survived by his wife, Ianina; his mother, Nadya; his stepfather, Yuriy; his brothers, Sergey and Oleg; his sisters in law, Tetyana and Kirsten; and his nephews, Andrew and Nicholas.
