Dixie Lee Hartley of Hebron, NE the daughter of Ralph and R. Pauline (Jones) Smart was born November 22, 1928 in Fairbury, NE. She departed this life Tuesday May 4, 2010 at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron, NE at the age of 81 years.
Dixie grew up in the Fairbury area and graduated from Fairbury High School. She attended Fairbury Junior College for one and a half semesters and then went to Mary Lanning Nursing School for one semester. On March 5, 1949 she married Frank Hartley at the United Methodist Church in Fairbury, NE this was a double ceremony with Ralph and Imogene Baldwin their best friends (and because Frank had a car). This marriage was blessed with the birth of two sons.
Dixie and Frank lived in Hebron all of their married life. Dixie was employed as a teachers aid for Hebron High School from 1967 to 1985. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hebron, NE for over 50 years.
Dixie loved to go to flea markets, collecting old antique trunks, taking them home and completely refinishing them, and then back to the market they went. She also collected dolls, new or old she loved them all.
