Dixie L. Alton, age 57, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Indiana. A resident of Walkerton since 1999, Dixie had lived in Houston, Texas and Gary, Indiana.
She attended Lew Wallace High School in Gary well into her senior year when her family moved to Texas. She graduated with the Class of 1972 from Humble (TX) High School.
Dixie was a convenience store manager, becoming a food service industry store manager for many years. She was last employed as a well loved receptionist in Plymouth (IN) before injury and illness confined her to a nursing home in recent years.
Dixie enjoyed scouting as a girl and volunteered with her nephew’s Boy Scouts of America scout pack. She sang in the church choir while living in Houston and liked to sing duets with her sister at Bethel Bible Church in Winamac, IN. Born July 3, 1954 in St. Paul, Minnesota, Dixie was the daughter of the late Rex M. and N. Evelyn (Parks) Alton.
She is survived by siblings, Gail L. (John) Gordon-Naffzinger, Michigan City, IN, Randall L. Gordon, Argos, IN, Nancy K. (Richard) Alton-Arrasmith, Walkerton, IN, Danny (Darcy) Fivecoat, Crown Point, IN and Linda France of Arkansas and many nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Dee Dee very much. Along with her parents, Dixie was preceded in death by two sisters, Sharon M. Gordon and Sherrell Gordon-Fordham.
