Dirk Brady of Cocoa Beach passed away at home on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. He will be remembered for the twinkle in his eye and his warm and gentle personality.
Dirk Samulon Brady was born in Hannover, Germany on October 3, 1918. He was the only child of Ida Hoffman Samulon and Adolf Samulon. Educated at the Leibniz Schule in Hannover, Mr. Brady first worked as an apprentice at Hannover Montan Company, a piping system manufacturer.
After entering the United States in 1936 as a refugee from Nazi Germany, he served a three-year toolmaker apprenticeship at Engineering and Research Company, Washington, D.C. advancing to machine designer. Mr. Brady attended The George Washington University, Washington D.C. as a night student. He graduated in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. His activities at The George Washington University included being a student engineering instructor and membership in Sigma Tau, engineering honorary, Theta Tau, professional engineering society, Engineering Council, and Phi Epsilon Pi, social fraternity.
Upon graduation from The George Washington University, he entered the Merchant Marine serving as second assistant engineer. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and. relocated to Ann Arbor, MI where he worked for Metrical Laboratories as a machine designer from 1945-1946. Following this period, Mr.
