On Sunday December 19th, 2021 we lost Dirk Andrew Richwine beloved son, father, husband, brother, and friend. Dirk is survived by wife Marji; son Andrew; daughter and son in law Amy & Matt LeGrand and two grandsons Caleb & Ethan; parents Bill and Janet; his brother Mark; sister Celine.

Dirk was a graduate from the Arizona State University where he received his Bachelor of Science and Golden Gate University where he received his Master’s in Public Administration. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity while at Northern Arizona University. He attended McClintock High School in Tempe Arizona and Fairmont West High school in Kettering Ohio. Dirk was friend to everyone he met, and he cherished and valued all the relationships he made.

Dirk retired in 2013 but continued to spend his time volunteering for the National Recreation and Parks Association which brought him great joy. He loved presenting at Revenue School and Director School and mentoring people he met though NRPA. In 2020 Dirk became a Master Gardener which he was very proud of. He cherished his backyard garden and sharing his harvest with his two grandsons, especially letting them come pick tomatoes and raspberries.

In his free time Dirk loved to travel, whether it was for NRPA or with his wife Marji. Dirk enjoyed hiking the Camino de Santiago in Spain with his son Andrew in 2014. He had the opportunity to travel to Germany, Ireland, and South America with his wife of 35 years and several close friends. He and Marji enjoyed yearly trips to Hawaii with friends and most recently he was able to spend 5 weeks traveling the Northeast to see the fall foliage. While there he was able to take baking classes at King Arthur Baking Company and he learned how to make croissants.

We were all blessed to have known and love Dirk for as many years as we all did. It is easy to say he died so young and there was so much left he wanted to do but he experienced so much in his 62 years. He lived a wonderful and amazing life and never met a stranger, just a future friend.
