Diann E. Howell, age 72, of Salem, died at 9:50 pm, Thursday, September 12, 2013 at the Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with her beloved family by her side. She was born September 3, 1941 in Huntsdale, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Claude and Evelyn (Negley) Baughman. Diann and her husband, Bob returned to Salem in March of 2013 from North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where they resided for 22 years. She worked at Alligator Adventure and previously at Chicora Realty as an accountant. Diann loved the ocean, reading books, spending time with the tourists and her many friends at Alligator Adventure. Diann was a member of the Salem First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Edward Oast; adopted daughter, Tammy Oast; and brother, Stephen Baughman. Survivors include her husband, Robert K. Howell, whom she married October 25, 1986; adopted daughters, Anna Lewis of Toledo, OH and Vanessa Beery of Cypress, TX; stepdaughters, Christine (Mike) Mancuso of Salem, Kathleen (Mike) Paster of Salem, and Eileen (Ted) Gagnon of Salem; 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; and beloved miniature parrot “Nate”.
