Deke was born on August 8, 1915, in Stevens, S.D., the son of William “Harry” and Fannie (Tappan) Fowler. He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from East High School. On June 10, 1940, Deke married Rose Isabel Lane in Le Mars, IA. The couple made their home in Sioux City, IA and Omaha, NE.

Deke worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). He entered the US Army in 1945 and earned his honorable discharge.

The family moved to Norfolk in 1954. Deke was employed at the Bricker’s Office Supply and later Norfolk Office Equipment Company from which he retired.

When Deke was younger, he participated in swimming, gymnastics, softball and golden gloves boxing. His greatest love, however was his friends and family. He especially enjoyed working at Brown’s Lake near South Sioux City. Later, he enjoyed traveling, bowling, dancing and numerous family weekends at Lake Andes, South Dakota.

Deke is survived by his special friend, Leona Kasik; children and their spouses—Michael and Deb Fowler, of Coal Creek, CO, Patrick and Kim Fowler, of Aurora, CO, daughter-in-law, Vi Fowler, of Omaha, Janet and Dewain Paulsen, of Hadar, Kathie and Dave Sovereign, of Norfolk, Margaret and Ed Sorensen, of Kasota, MN, Lori Hermsen, of Lincoln, and Joseph Fowler of Omaha; 23 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Carrie Sanderlin, of Decatur, IL, and Shirley (Larry) Sersion, of Canyon City, CO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rose, daughter, Mary Margaret, son, Gary, grandson, Shawn, son-in-law, Doug; two brothers and one sister.
