Desmond DeShawn Cook Jr.transitioned from this life on Sunday, November 13, 2022, peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 30, 2005 in Decatur, Alabama to Desmond Cook Sr. and Shannon Powers
Desmond confessed Christ as his personal savior and was a member of Westside Missionary Baptist Church. Desmond, affectionately known as “Lil Dez,” by all of his family and friends, attended Austin High School within the Decatur City School System. Desmond enjoyed playing basketball and football, as well as video games with his friends. Desmond had a huge heart and a beautiful smile to match. His smile was described as comforting and loving to those that he encountered, though sometimes behind that smile was a bit of happy silliness cherished by many.
Desmond was preceded in death by great-grandparents: Walter Powers, Tommy Cook, Sr., Charlie French, and Doris Cohn.
Desmond leaves to cherish his loving memory: parents, Desmond Cook, Sr. and Shannon Powers; grandparents, Janice Powers Rutledge (Terrance), Sonya Cook, Mika Woods, Shannon French, and Frankie Mitchell, Jr.; great-grandparents, Pearline Powers and Bobby Cook; siblings, Jason Williams and Cain Cook; uncles, Jerraud Powers (Leah), Steve Pruitt Jr, Isaiah Watson, and Jamison Woods; aunts, Sharell Powers, Asia Tucker, Ariel Watson, and Jazmine Powers Carr (Patrick); and several great aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends; a special uncle, Jeffrey Porter (Butchie) and special friends, Cameron Clark, Isaac King, and Kaleb Kirk.
