DERRICK L. ANDERSON, SR.

 United States

  • Date Of Death: August 26, 2019
  • State: Indiana

On September 10, 1955, Derrick Anderson, Sr., was born to Simon and Evelyn Anderson in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Derrick attended    Christian County High School. As a young man in Kentucky, he would always lend a helping hand. At the age of seventeen he left home and moved to Indianapolis, Indiana.

Once in Indianapolis, Derrick was united in marriage to Michelle Coffer.  To their union three children were born.

Derrick accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age as his father, Simon, was a pastor.

Derrick, affectionately known as “Doc”, worked and retired from the  railroad company, Conrail. After retirement, he continued working, helping with elderly people, construction, and security detail over the years. Derrick loved to cook. Every Sunday you could count on a big   dinner and some gospel music playing. During the summer, he loved to cook on the grill, where smoke would fill the neighborhood and he would make plates for his neighbors and invite friends and family over for     dinner.

Doc loved playing cards and horse shoes with Nikki as his spades partner, Li’l Derrick as his horse shoe partner, and Lamont getting the beer. Doc was not only a father to his three children, he was also a father figure for many of the boys in the hood. One of his favorite sayings was “Take it slow, you can do it some mo. Take it fast, you’re a** won’t last”.

Derrick Anderson, Sr. left us on August 26, 2019, at 2:00 A.M. at the age of 63, due to a hard-fought battle of lung cancer. He was receded in death by his mother, Evelyn Anderson; father, Simon Anderson; son, Demond Anderson; brothers, Simon Anderson, Jr., James Anderson, and William Anderson.

Derrick leaves to cherish his memory his children Derrick (Mary) Anderson, Jr., Leechelle Butts and daughter-in-law, Desma Anderson; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild; sisters, Cecelia and Lila; brothers, Ray, Larry, Porter, Roscoe, and Job, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
