Mr. Pfeifer died on September 20, 2015, as a result of a car accident.

Derek was born on July 29, 1993, in Norfolk, the son of Thomas and Lori (Hake) Pfeifer.

He was raised on the family farm and attended St. Leonard’s Elementary, Madison Junior High and graduated from St. Francis High School in Humphrey in 2012. He continued his education at Northeast Community College where graduated in 2013.

Derek had worked for Reigle Farms and was employed at NECC as a lab instructor in the welding program. He worked as a welder for DuoLift in Columbus. At the time of his passing, Derek was employed as a foreman at Sidump’r in Columbus. He was very proud of his trade as a welder. He was a welder by trade and a young farmer at heart—raising his cattle.

He had a very strong faith and was active in JC Camp and TEC. He was a life-long member of St. Leonard’s Catholic Church and member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8986 of Madison.

Derek enjoyed sports. He had an accomplished career in football and track. He had an extensive collection of John Deere miniature equipment.

He was detail oriented, as exemplified by his welding, however he had a passion for his family and friends.

Derek is survived by his parents, two sisters, Jody Pfeifer, of Lincoln, and Kelly Pfeifer, of Madison; His grandparents—Marvin and JoAnn Pfeifer, of Madison, and Leona Hake, of Creston; his aunts and uncles—Bill and Kathy Pfeifer, of Madison, John and Ellie Pfeifer, of CA, Mark and Melissa Pfeifer, of Madison, Christopher and Veronica Pfeifer, of Howells, James and Kim Pfeifer, of Clarkson, Jeff and Lori Pfeifer, of Clarkson, Monica Wisby, of Norfolk, Glen and Monica Hake, of Creston, James and Cindy Wendt, of Columbus, Brian and Brandi Hake, of Norfolk, and Curt & Heidi Lindberg, of Tekamah; his very special friend, Carly Theis, of Winside; his second family—Eugene and Paula Wolken and their son, Trey; and many many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Merlin Hake, two uncles—Cory Hake and James Wisby and two aunts—Sharon Pfeifer and Peggy Pfeifer.
